“that would be nice.” kelsey admitted softly as she followed blaine’s lead over to the garbage can instinctively dropping the remaining trash from her lunch into the can before taking those few steps back to the table to grab her backpack and toss it over her right shoulder while doing her best to keep eye contact with the other teen to show she was still engaged in their conversation.
after all, the biggest reason kelsey had joined the glee club – aside from actually finding some enjoyment in singing and dancing – was to make friends and feel that sense of belonging. glee club had its up and downs like any family. but at the end of the day it was exactly everything she wanted socially. at the end of the day they always had each other’s backs because that’s what a family does, they stand up for each other even if they’re fighting themselves. and since the only family she had was her mother this experience was all that more important to the teenager. even thought she’d probably never dare to admit such a thing.
“nah i’m TOTALLY up for that.” even if it might be a little embarrassing, it didn’t take much for kelsey to get embarrassed but she would get over that. she always did. “so, you have any ideas on a song that will appeal to their inner sappy selves – just in case? or are we gonna like wing that part?” because that would be a little difficult to just come up with on the spot… plus she really needed to learn more songs for when they all randomly broke out into song so she didn’t have to pretend like she knew ALL the notes and words.
Linking arms with her, Blaine mosied along the path out of the lunchroom and decided that instead of catching up with the others? They could head to the auditorium to discuss their taking over the glee club plan in more detail. Students ambled past them but Blaine’s attention was all on Kelsey while his brain tried to come up with the best plan possible. A songtervention.
Not just to make sure they didn’t suffer and inevitable defeat. But because he wasn’t sure how much more bickering he could take before shooting off something he shouldn’t say (and would later regret) to the next person who threw a fit. Er. Wouldn’t that be throwing a fit too? A fit to end a fit? Yeah, it’d work but he didn’t want to cause more drama on top of the already there drama that he and Kelsey were trying to dissipate.
“Great! Glad to see you’re willing to give it a shot. Either it’ll work..or not and we’ll get told to shut up but that’s not going to stop me from trying.” Squinting thoughtfully and humming as his head bobbed from side to side, a thoughtful pout jutted out his bottom lip as he internally debated song choices. “Depends. What are you in the mood for and who do you know best?” Suddenly, it struck him he didn’t know what she would or wouldn’t know. Yeah, they definitely needed some auditorium time to figure this out. Winging it might be a disaster.
