Now that Mike was all settled in and used to his new schedule, there was not much stopping him from hanging out with an old friend. That’s how he liked to think of his friends from back in Lima, the kind of friends he didn’t see very often often but when they got together, it felt like they’d never been apart.

All wrapped up in his new coat, he shoved his beanie onto his head and wrapped the knitted scarf his mother had sent him around his neck. In spite of his excitement, Mike had the presence of mind to check that his wasn’t forgetting anything. He patted his pockets. Phone: okay. Wallet: okay. Keys: okay. He was good to go.

Closing the door behind him, he hurtled down the stairs, hoping that he hadn’t kept Blaine waiting too long. That is if his friend was already there. Willing himself to slow down as he reached the last few steps, he looked up only to find that Blaine was indeed already there.Ā ā€œHi!ā€ he smiled. Walking closer, he pulled Blaine into a one-armed hug. ā€œI am so ready for this! How have you been?ā€

Blaine tipped his cider back to take a sip as he dug at a tiny patch of snow that missed being shoveled off the sidewalk as he waited.Ā  Eyes bright with anticipation as he waited for any sign of Mike.Ā  The mugs in his hands were doing a great job at keeping them warm in spite of the tint of pink his cheeks were taking on.Ā  No worries.Ā  Central Park after a snowfall was worth the cold.Ā  Being the first person to be able to show Mike around it?Ā  Extra bonus.

Hearing steps on the salt covering the sidewalk, Blaine turned his head right on time to catch sight of Mike seconds before he was pulled into a hug that he happily returned with a squeeze of his forearm around Mike’s middle.Ā Ā ā€œHey!Ā  Hi,ā€ one more half-hug and he stepped back to offer one of the thermoses to his friend.Ā Ā

ā€œGreat!Ā  Yourself?Ā  Wow.Ā  It’s really good to see you.ā€

Ā A cheeky, happy smile from ear to ear brimmed with excitement.Ā Ā ā€œI take it you’re settled in?Ā  My offer to come help you unpack and get whatever you need still stands.Ā  I mean it.ā€Ā  Blaine took the lead with a nod of his head and aĀ ā€˜shall we’ arch of his eyebrow before walking through the gated entrance.Ā  He meant it a million times over.Ā Ā ā€œOH and,ā€ he grinned gesturing to the pathway in front of them with it’s snow dusted trees, statues and benches, ā€œwelcome to Central Park.ā€

ā€œI’d rather not, plausible deniability and all. Come on, let’s get you patched up.ā€

ā€œDon’t worry.Ā  I’m not going to breathe a word you were here.Ā  I’d rather not answer questions about how this happened anyway.ā€Ā  Blaine shot the guy a guilty smile before looking down at his bloodied bruised knuckles.Ā  They really were a mess.Ā  And he had piano lessons tomorrow.Ā  Probably should have thought about that before he didn’t regain control of a sparring match gone a teeny bit out of control.

image

ā€œI’ll be–,ā€ he hissed in a breath through clenched together teeth in a grimace when he wriggled them trying to make a point that failed beyond the meaning of fail (so said the pain shooting up his arm).Ā Ā ā€œWow.Ā  That really is getting worse..and a lot more gross.ā€Ā  Cringing, his nose scrunched when he met the other’s eyes and nodded.Ā Ā ā€œI mean–yeah.Ā  Thanks.ā€

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā A slight mischievous grin quickly graced Kurt’s otherwise impeccably styled features. For someone so prim and proper, it really didn’t take much to see each and every single one of the Warbler’s gears running rampant. Maybe it had been the fact these little conversations took place every so often. Maybe, deep down, his ability to read the other boy like a book had left him curious, wondering, colored with intrigue how they had both ended up in such a place to begin with. A sense of familiarity, pettily disguised as pretty much any excuse to be able to interact with him — in spite of his own high school reputation.Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā ā› I have a boyfriend. āœ

Ā  Ā  Ā  Blaine noticed the grin and wasn’t particularly keen on the spike of intrigue it created.Ā  What was going on in the Cheerio’s head to make him formĀ that sort of a smile?Ā  Preparing for the claws to come out, Blaine stood his ground more determined than ever to not let someone like Kurt Hummel to get under his skin.Ā  More than he already had..Ā  Seeing Kurt enjoying himself brought a thoughtful pout to Blaine’s lips as he carefully planned his comeback. Although that blurt if information wasn’t exactly what he was prepared for.Ā  Both brows shot up and for only a blink or two, Blaine looked stunned.Ā  Boyfriend?Ā  Alright then.

ā€œUm?Ā  Okay.Ā  I’m happy for you.ā€Ā  Leaning towards the boy, his smile was back (crooked but there) and his voice regained it’s same soft sincerity that everyone who knew him would come to expect.Ā Ā ā€œI hope the two of you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day and he, you know, actually joins you here for a change?ā€Ā  Was Blaine Anderson just calling bullcrap?Ā  No!Ā  Not him!Ā  Never.

ā€œNow if you’ll excuse me?Ā  I have some friends who are waiting.ā€

It’s … Ā  Ā INSULTING , Ā almost Ā  ––– Ā  the thought that someone like Kurt would so much as Ā blink Ā  in someone else’s direction. Ā  Ā  Having Ā  Blaine Ā  was a rarity , Ā  a once in a lifetime chance for someone with a face like Ā  that . Ā  Ā  And Blaine ? Ā  Ā  Blaine was far too gorgeous to settle for a boy so low-grade , Ā  annoying , Ā  unattractively baby-faced Ā  ––– Ā  Ā never mind be Ā slighted Ā  by him , Ā  to be anything less than Ā  worshipped Ā  by him. Ā  Ā The audacity of it all.

Add Ā  injury to insult Ā  : Ā  Ā it’s the first time in ages that Blaine’s reached out. Ā  Ā Sebastian can’t exactly blame him Ā  ; Ā  Ā he’s sure Ā  Kurt Ā  has something to do with it , Ā  that Kurt’s been watching like a hawk , Ā  Ā ready to swoop down at the first Ā  whiff Ā  Ā of Sebastian. Ā  Ā It should be comforting , Ā  Ā satisfying Ā  at least , Ā  Ā to know that it’s Ā  him Ā  Blaine seeks solace in. Ā  Still , Ā  his pride is wounded in playing Best Friend. Ā  Ā  And yet Ā  –––—

( Ā to Ā  – Ā blaine Ā ) Ā  : Ā  i think the universe is telling you something. Ā  Ā kurt’s finallly found someone more in his league. Ā  Ā maybe it’s time you do the same and let go of those training wheels.

Hurt ego and all , Ā  Sebastian still finds that signature smirk blooming in to something more Ā genuine . Ā  Ā It’s lucky he has the distance of the screen between them to hide the honest smile tugging at his lips , Ā  the way his eyes flicker at the glow of the screen.

He hesitates.

( Ā to Ā  – Ā blaine Ā ) Ā  : Ā  but seriously. Ā  Ā he’d be crazy not to appreciate what he has in front of him.

Blaine sat on the edge of his bed, hands still shaking as he gripped his phone so tight that the color bled out of his knuckles and fingertips.Ā  Tears of frustration, hurt and anger that didn’t stop his entire drive back to Westerville were still welled up in his eyes.Ā  The only person he thought would get it?Ā  That he could trust not to run and tell Kurt everything he said and make things WORSE?Ā  Was the one person that Kurt threw in his face repeatedly. As lately as two hours ago during their argumentĀ that got them to this point.Ā

Sebastian probably had better things to do than read his endless spewing text about things like ā€˜great asp’s and ā€˜using Kurt’s voice as his ringtone’.Ā  Or suffer through the repeated question of how crazy he was for feeling this way mixed into a mottled mess of autocorrected words that, occasionally, were completely different from his original intent.Ā  He kept going until he was answered.Ā  Then the dots finally came to a brief pause until..

( mssg Ā» sebastian | sent )Ā I don’t know if I want to go that far.Ā  I just.Ā  I don’t understand why he can’t see the reasons for the distance growing between us.Ā  Or if he does?Ā  Why then, instead of fixing it, is he talking to this guy?

In an attempt to soothe headache building behind his eyes, Blaine rubbed the bridge of his nose and let out a heavy sigh.Ā  The next message caught him off guard from how perfectly timed it was just as a wave of self-doubt flooded his thoughts.

( mssg Ā» sebastian | sent )Ā It makes me feel like everything I’ve been afraid of might happen.Ā  I’m not sure how I’ll deal with it if it does.Ā  That’s the biggest reason why it hurts so much.

( mssg Ā» kurt | sent )Ā We are.Ā  I’m not even the slightest bit regretful about it though.
( mssg Ā» kurt | sent )Ā You do?Ā  Well then.
( mssg Ā» kurt | sent )Ā I’m on my way to the auditorium right now.Ā  Hurry up and meet me there.Ā  I fully plan on refreshing your mind on the events last night that lead up to you swearing your toes would never uncurl again and you’d have to replace every shoe you own.
( mssg Ā» kurt | sent )Ā Obviously it didn’t work since you’re wearing your favorite boots.Ā  Time to give it another go.
