Nights in New York

“Oh, you love the spotlight.” Playfully pushing him as she grinned. “Hey to you too.” The brunette whispered, handing him a mic before turning back to hers. “As I said, this was unplanned…” Emilia quickly glanced over at Blaine. “So, I’m going to take a moment to discuss the set list with Mr. Anderson, feel free to talk among yourselves.” Em chuckled at her almost brother-in-law, knowing she was embarrassing him – in her defense, she could have called him a lot worse. She crouched down to retrieve the set list on the floor, handing it to Blaine. “What do you think?”

“What,” Blaine scrunched his nose and gave her the most jokingly incredulous look he could muster up.  “Did you just accuse me of–?  I’m offended.”  Emilia deserved some gruff for the spotlight comment. He stepped to the side as she addressed the crowd pausing his eyeing the setlist below trying to figure out what they were going to sing and if they could use something she already had planned when she crouched in front of him.  “I think any of these could work,” he leaned into her but smiled at the crowd before meeting her eyes.  “Or we could sing that song you sang for your fifth birthday party.  The one Burt treated me to the home video of. What was it again?”  If she thought this taunting was bad?  It was nothing compared to what she was going to get later for his revenge!

While scanning the crowd, she made eye contact with Blaine and gave him a quick wave. She still experienced nerves while on stage and greatly appreciated his words, which instantly boosted her confidence.

A few songs later, there was a small pause. “Hey, guys. I’m Emilia and thanks for staying for my set.” She cracked open the water bottle which was resting by the mic, and took a gulp. “I hope you don’t mind, I have a small surprise.” Emilia pointed towards Blaine with a grin on her face, beckoning him to come over. “This was completely unplanned so I hope he doesn’t mind.”

Blaine gleamed as he proudly watched her.  He wished Kurt could be here but his fiance’ was off with Rachel who was in the middle of Meltdown Category 4 for..well..keeping track of Rachel Meltdowns was getting difficult.  She would only see Kurt.  So?  Blaine decided to come until Kurt could show up  And he was so, so glad he did.  Not only for skirting out of calming down duties.  Though that was a huge relief itself.  Oh!  Hello!  What was she up to?

His curiosity last for long.  Seeing her waving him up–Blaine tucked his chin down and chuckled softly feeling a splash of heat fill both cheeks.  All eyes on him–he breathed, a crooked smile remained as he stood up and gave a tick of a wave to her any everyone else. “Way to put a guy on the spot, Emilia,” he whispered with a fake huff and a twinkle in his eye as he leaned in and bounced their shoulders together. “Hi, by the way. It’s good to see you again.”

Plane having landed that morning, she had some time to rest before making her way over to the New York bar. She was requested by the owner to fly out and sing. Having family in the area, she agreed.

As there were multiple sets being played that night, the bar was already packed when Emilia stepped inside. Walking over to the makeshift ‘backstage’ to prepare and wait for her set. Not long after arriving, she stepped onto the stage and after a short introduction began to sing. She looked over the crowd as she sang – hoping to see at least one familiar face.

The small bar was packed from wall to wall.  Happy chatter between bands was slung around as easy as the alcohol flowed from the bar thanks to an expert bartender who zipped from side to side like it was barely a challenge.  People were happy, excited and the music was fantastic. Blaine was all grins and toothy smiles as he made his way into the bar earlier that night to wait for Emilia’s performance.

Having enjoyed most of the sets so far without a single drop of anything to drink besides soda–he, finally, used his fake I.D. (not that he was carded anyway..he doubted anyone cared here unless the cops showed up) to get a beer and settle in knowing she was the next in line. Joining in with the cheers–Blaine bounced in his seat when the music started and was still bright and twinkly eyed when they made eye contact.  A set of slender fingers lifted in a wave to her and he winked encouragingly mouthing the words, ‘You’re doing great!’, as one foot bobbed to the beat from where it swayed in the air with one leg being crossed over the other.
