kelsey.

“that would be nice.” kelsey admitted softly as she followed blaine’s lead over to the garbage can instinctively dropping the remaining trash from her lunch into the can before taking those few steps back to the table to grab her backpack and toss it over her right shoulder while doing her best to keep eye contact with the other teen to show she was still engaged in their conversation.

after all, the biggest reason kelsey had joined the glee club – aside from actually finding some enjoyment in singing and dancing – was to make friends and feel that sense of belonging. glee club had its up and downs like any family. but at the end of the day it was exactly everything she wanted socially. at the end of the day they always had each other’s backs because that’s what a family does, they stand up for each other even if they’re fighting themselves. and since the only family she had was her mother this experience was all that more important to the teenager. even thought she’d probably never dare to admit such a thing.

“nah i’m TOTALLY up for that.” even if it might be a little embarrassing, it didn’t take much for kelsey to get embarrassed but she would get over that. she always did. “so, you have any ideas on a song that will appeal to their inner sappy selves – just in case? or are we gonna like wing that part?” because that would be a little difficult to just come up with on the spot… plus she really needed to learn more songs for when they all randomly broke out into song so she didn’t have to pretend like she knew ALL the notes and words.

Linking arms with her, Blaine mosied along the path out of the lunchroom and decided that instead of catching up with the others?  They could head to the auditorium to discuss their taking over the glee club plan in more detail.  Students ambled past them but Blaine’s attention was all on Kelsey while his brain tried to come up with the best plan possible.  A songtervention.

Not just to make sure they didn’t suffer and inevitable defeat.  But because he wasn’t sure how much more bickering he could take before shooting off something he shouldn’t say (and would later regret) to the next person who threw a fit.  Er.  Wouldn’t that be throwing a fit too?  A fit to end a fit?  Yeah, it’d work but he didn’t want to cause more drama on top of the already there drama that he and Kelsey were trying to dissipate.

“Great!  Glad to see you’re willing to give it a shot.  Either it’ll work..or not and we’ll get told to shut up but that’s not going to stop me from trying.”  Squinting thoughtfully and humming as his head bobbed from side to side, a thoughtful pout jutted out his bottom lip as he internally debated song choices.  “Depends.  What are you in the mood for and who do you know best?” Suddenly, it struck him he didn’t know what she would or wouldn’t know.  Yeah, they definitely needed some auditorium time to figure this out.  Winging it might be a disaster.

kelsey.

The more she thought about it the more Mr. Shue reminded her of Mr. Matthew’s from that silly tv show she’d never admit to watching. The lesson ALWAYS related to something someone in the group – or multiple – was dealing with. And it wasn’t ironic – typically. It was typically a good thing though since they got to deal with things through something they were passionate about.

“I know, me too. But relevant is probably the SAFEST one.” Kelsey let out a light giggle as she picked at her food a little more nibbling on a forkful every now and then. They didn’t need to get started on that topic. They BOTH knew where that would go – probably. Somethings were better left unsaid or at least implied. Especially when you could understand the implication without it being mentioned.

“Can only hope.” The nearly sarcastic statement came from the teens lips without any thought before she spoke. That was the way she USUALLY approached things but she’d been watching herself a bit to THINK first. Sometimes her words got her into trouble so it was a habit she was trying to break but somethings people really didn’t think much when having a conversation. A smile crept across Kelsey’s face at the offer. “You bet!”

“Perfect,” Blaine grinned as he climbed out of the bench while munching on one last piece of a carrot from his half eaten salad.  The rest of it was left as a place to toss his fork and napkin after he dabbed his mouth just in case.  “I just want us to sing together as a group this week,” he swallowed down some more water and quickly tossed his garbage in a nearby can.

“After all the fighting each other and the drama it’s brought along?”  Not that he should be one to talk.  There were several Battle Royals that he was a part of.  BUT!  They were getting a bit old and Sectionals wasn’t going to wait for any more of their internal bickering.  It’d just deliver the trophy to the Warblers while they fell apart at the seams because only half of them were working together.  There was a time for competition among them and then there was a time to look at the bigger picture and pull together.  That time was about two weeks ago.

“I think we need to remember why we’re all here and love this group so much. So?  Today?  I’m serious.  If anyone starts to even think about stirring the pot?  You and I are going to take over and sing something so appealing to all their inner sappy selves–they don’t stand a chance against joining in.”  Blaine flashed her a devious, scheming grin and took the corner towards the corridor that lead to the auditorium.  “If you don’t mind me putting you on the spot?”

kelsey.

Kelsey picked up her burger and took a bite the while she waited for Blaine’s response again. Maybe she had jumped to a conclusion a little too quickly but she’d just been throwing out a possibility of what the theme might be for the week based off what they knew. Her eagerly and slightly innocent mind only had so many places to go. Honestly, she really did need to get out more. That was why she had joined the Glee Club in the first place.

“Yah, you’re probably right.” She giggled softly poking her fork into the salad and sipping a little bit of her milk. Sometimes she felt awkward socializing while eating. She just had to let herself NOT think about it all too much. That was easy though, she just let her mind work to try and process some other possibilities of what topic Mr. Schuester might give them for this week.

“No you’re right. I think we will be done with that for a while, thank fully. It was like maybe fun for an hour?” She laughed softly digging back into her food for a brief moment. “But honestly? I’m not sure what he has planned for us this week. Somehow though, he always seems to come up with something relevant.”

Listening to Kelsey as he took a few more bites of his salad and popped a chip in his mouth–Blaine ‘hmphed’ with an upwards jerk of his shoulders and a twitch of his eyebrows that matched the shrug.  “Relevant is an objective word you can use to describe his lessons but, I could think of a few other things too.” Mainly mood driven and chaotic lately but who was he to point that out?

All he knew was if they didn’t start focusing on the big picture soon–they were going to be seriously behind.  Modus Operandi for the New Directions, though, right?  Things always seemed to work out in the end but they did love their rocky roads to the finish line.  And if they had one more assignment that landed in you’re all winners in my eyes–Blaine was pretty sure he was going to make a permanent dent in the soundproof wall with his forehead.  Might as well get the Advil ready..?  –Okay?  What’s with the mood today?  Knock it off, Blaine.–

“Whatever he picks, I’m sure it’ll be great!”  Out of his mouth comes the opposite!  Even the smile and quick way he nods adds to his ‘enthusiasm’ about discovering what was waiting for them inside the choir room.  “I got an idea.  How about we finish up and use what’s left of our lunch break to sneak into the auditorium and get a head start,” his napkin was tucked into the half eaten bag of chips, “I have the perfect thing in mind.  You wanna?”

kelsey.

She gave a small giggle at Blaine’s comment while she took a seat at the lunch table. ‘Thanks.” She added and began to nibble at her food while she listened to his answer to her questions. Her own mind wandering off slightly trying to pin ideas together on the circumstances of the week and how Mr. Schuester would base an idea off of them.

Blaine’s comment on the love triangles. She had an idea in her head of who he was talking about, until he mentioned that there were more than one of them. “God no!” She laughed. “I mean, not that it would never happen to me, because I’m sure it’s possible, but not yet. I mean, I haven’t got my eye on anyone, yet. I’m just happy being single for the moment since I’ve got my whole life ahead of me.” She rambled. “Plus, it leads to dramatic moments like this that require singing to fix them apparently.”

“So are we thinking like a love topic or breakups?  I don’t know why but for some reason love triangles makes me think Taylor Swift? And I like never listen to her stuff anymore.”

Blaine decided now that he had company that it’d be a great idea to pick up his fork and knife and actually start getting through whatever he mindlessly grabbed to eat.  It wasn’t the lunch’s fault.  How could something so processed and gross add up to picnic baskets of carefully plotted out full course meals made by him or Kurt?  This stuff on his tray was just rubbish in comparison. Maybe it was about time to start packing those lunches again?  Even if they made him feel homesick for someone who wasn’t here, it was better than being actually physically sick from food that sat out way past it’s prime.

Kelsey’s question made what he was doing dawn on him when he heard her voice.  He’d been sitting there, tuned out and debating menu choices two seconds into the topic of love the glee club came up.  Sure as the cat’s meow snapped right back to Earth at the mention of love triangles or break-ups though.  Blaine blinked and jabbed his fork into some spinach.  “Break-ups?  Nahhh,” he waved his free hand in the air near his cheek and burrowed his brows together like the idea was totally just--’nooo don’t be silly’–.

Break-ups?  Why break-ups?  Who was breaking-up in her opinion?  God, maybe he should have stayed home.  “I don’t think we’ve hit the Defcon Four that requires break-up songs yet. It’s going to be a Taylor Swift sort of week.  One can hope!  Anything but the 80′s hair bands we were singing last week. Not that there’s anything wrong with them.  I could just use a break.”

It started off as just your average day at William McKinley High school, at least for Kelsey it did. Morning classes were a bit of a drag since she was never fully awake for those. In all honesty Glee Club was really the only thing that got her through the day. But hey, at least she had something to motivate her. Although she did have an amazing voice, at least in her mothers eyes, it was the dancing aspect of a show choir that had initially appealed to her.

Now her she was standing just in front of their usual table with her lunch tray about to take a seat. Her mind no longer focused on Biology, the class she had just had, but ideas of what the new topic Mr. Schuester might introduce to them. Not that it was easy to try and guess the topic, at least not very often but some were rather obvious. She set her tray down across from Blaine and flashed him a small smile as she took her seat.

“Got any idea on what the new topic might be?”

Most of the morning, Blaine was stuck in a rut.  Projecting his usual out-going, brilliantly bright personality came easy.  Not skipping a beat or missing a smile when one fit the situation or was called for.  It was how he worked, right?  Today was just difficult.  Keeping up with the energy that was his nature so no one would see through the cracks and worry about him wore him out by lunch.  Sitting down and eating wasn’t working out as he planned though. Most of his food was untouched or barely nibbled on.

Blaine snapped to when he heard a voice and greeted Kelsey with a happy smile / wave.  “Hey-hey, Kelsey. Sorry, my mind was wandering off to New York City.  Saved you a seat,” he waited for her to sit and leaned in to close some of the distance by resting his weight on his forearms. Blaine laughed at the question.  Pinning down Mr. Schue’s would-be topic was either easy as pie depending on what crisis him or a student was currently going through.  Or a total mystery to figure out.  There was no in between.  “There seems to be a love triangle going on. Or three? I’m betting we have our inspiration.”

Eesh!  You’re not in one, are you?  Sorry about that if you are.”  Did he just have an oops moment?  It was hard to keep track.
