“Don’t put the blame on me. The cute-boy-wonder doth protest too much,” he winked. It seemed that Blaine was enjoying his cooking. Well, of course he was but it’s nice to know it isn’t being secretly spat out or something of the sorts. “I know, you must be wondering ‘Sebastian, you’re husband material. When are we getting married?’ and the answer is whenever you want.” Would he get a blush out of that one?

A slight pause. “Yeah, um, I had a brother. He died. That’s why you didn’t know,” he hesitated to tell Blaine this initially. Sebastian had moved on from that chapter of his life. But sometimes he would still wake up and have to remind himself that someone like his brother was gone from this world. That was the most bizarre part about grief. Everyday is a new shocking relearning of events. Taking the picture and putting it back he looked at Blaine with a newfound smile. “So anyways, when are we getting our cuddle on? Or show me yours?” Changing the subject was never more appropriate.

“Boy Wonder?  Come on–now you’re ridiculous,” Blaine scoffed in the direction of the floor and then glanced up with a smirk that kept spreading across his mouth until it was practically ear to ear by the time Sebastian was done fluffing up his husband material status. “How’d you know? And I don’t think you’re ready for that kind of a commitment with me, Seb. Not with the stories you’ve told me about your weekend activities.  I just wouldn’t feel right tying such a wild horse down.”  Blushing much?  Oh!  You could say his imitation of the background color of a stop sign was the best it’s ever been.

Sebastian’s pause made Blaine pause too.  His laughter faded and he was back to curiously watching him with a bewildered blink. When he heard the truth?  Blaine’s stomach bottomed out and any traces of his smile was gone. “Oh. Oh.”  Losing a brother was unthinkable in Blaine’s book.  Yes–he and Cooper might have their differences and their relationship was odd because of the years between them but–losing him?  He couldn’t imagine surviving the loss of his brother.  “Sebastian..  I didn’t..  I’m sorry,” he had to shake himself back to his senses after the whiplash inducing speed that Sebastian changed the subject with.  Blaine instantly jumped onto the abrupt shift.  “Um–we’re still talking baby pictures in the show you mine department, Seb. You’re forced to wait til we’re at my house for that but–,” he glanced past Sebastian to the bed and back.  “Cuddles?  I can do cuddles.”  And after what he just learned?  He never wanted to cuddle Sebastian worse than he did right now.

okay..not a height joke.

“I’ll have to see for myself then. I’m not big into feeding into the rumor mill, believe it or not,” he chuckled. Sebastian rolled his eyes out of playful annoyance. “If it was a height joke I would’ve said something about you being so small that cuddling was actually picking you up and placing you in either my pocket or atop my shoulder. That’s a height joke, killer,” he leaned in to kiss him gently.

When he felt Blaine pressed against his body his own heart thumped quite heavily. The rest of his body moved in to follow the contours and curves of Blaine’s very own. Taking Blaine’s fingers so that he could encase the boy in his arms, he had never felt better. One arm reached underneath the pillow and blaine’s head and sprawled out. “Shut up, cutie,” he whispered and chuckled. Kissing the back of Blaine’s neck he laid his head back down. “Of course.” His fingers traced over Blaine’s chest sweetly as gentle kisses met his shoulder. It wasn’t sexually motivated, but simply out of a compassionate place in Sebastian’s heart.

“You better never say you’re going to put me in your pocket or on your shoulder.  Like ever. You and I will duel at dawn if you do.” He could still feel the peck lingering on his lips even after his back was against Sebastian’s chest.  A set of long fingers answered his beckon call and slid between Blaine’s. Sebastian’s arm was guided around his chest exactly how Blaine wanted.  What cemented the Warbler’s Get Out Of Jail Free Card from the “not height joke” was the dips and hollows of Sebastian’s body moulding themselves against his back and legs.  Fine hairs running along the back of Blaine’s neck stood on end at the kiss pressed there.  His stomach caved and he pressed his cheek firmly against the pillow for balance.

Cutie?  He blushed never thinking he’d hear that term come from Sebastian.  It was endearingly sweet.  “Wait.  Am I supposed to shut up?  Or ask my question,” he asked in a dry, ragged voice that evened out with the feather light shoulder kisses.  “Because I’m confused now.”  Untangling his fingers from Sebastian’s as they caressed his chest–a feeling that made Blaine close his eyes as he sank into the calm the touch brought–Blaine reached back and found a strand of Sebastian’s bangs to lightly twirl through his fingers.  “I mean–I can shut up.  But?  That’s not very nice to say to someone, Seb.  Especially during epic cuddles.  I’m offended,” he grinned lazily.  And then he gave that wisp of hair he toyed with a careful tug to stress his point.

“Comfortable is me naked, but something tells me that’s not what you’re willing to deal with,” he chuckled. He slept naked, of course, so he was at least honest about it. Surprisingly enough, he was comfortable. The pillow was nice and so were the blankets. The fire felt so incredible on his skin. Everything was turning out to be so wonderful.

“Is that so? Now, is that a reputation that everyone knows or were you just told that by one specific person?” he teased. Poking Blaine, he scooted in close. “Yup, perfect now.” Sebastian wrapped his arm around Blaine’s midsection and pulled him in close. “Please tell me you’re a little spoon,” he chuckled. Sebastian kissed his shoulder sweetly as he rested on his side.

Skipping past the sans clothing confession–Blaine jumped right back to the topic of his Cuddle Reputation.  “It is so, Mister.  My cuddles are world renown.  I can’t believe you haven’t heard of their legendary status.”  He pretended to be offended but his plan was cut short by the poke and subsequent hard swallow when Sebastian moved in closer and pulled him in. Blaine’s fingertips came to life when he touched them to a freckled shoulder and smiled, laughter danced in his eyes and came in a silent shaking of his head.

He was glad for being the one with their shirt on to cover goosebumps prickling up over his shoulder and running down his spine when he glanced down at the spot Sebastian’s lips were before narrowing his eyes up at him.  “Was that a height thing? That better not have been.  I’ll have you know?  That won’t be tolerated but–sure.  I am.” One gentle press of his fingertips later he squirmed around until his back was pressed to Sebastian’s chest and he wiggled his fingers back above his shoulder for Sebastian to grab them so he could pull Sebastian’s arm around to the front of his chest.  “Better not have been a height thing,”  he quickly mumbled with a grin. Sighing–Blaine watched the flames growing brighter.  “Can I ask you something?”

With the poker he moved around some of the wood to make sure it would last as long as possible without too much interference. The very warmth felt so good upon his now naked torso. Looking back at Blaine he smiled brightly. “I am. If you don’t mind of course,” he nodded, in reference to himself being shirtless. Hearing the pitch of Blaine’s voice was amusing nonetheless. How adorable of him to react in such a way.

Sebastian reached out to grab the pillow with a singular hand. Sebastian figured he’d help Blaine to set up. Helping to flat out some of the blankets and placing his pillow he laid down. Patting the spot next to him he rested on his side. “Get ready to get your cuddle on, killer.” A chuckle filled the air.

He handed the pillow over and smiled “Of course I don’t mind.  Make yourself as comfortable as you like,” Blaine bit his lip and paused. Maybe offering that to Sebastian Smythe was dangerous but he got to his knees anyway and feathered the blanket and throw out.  A few unnecessary extra tugs to the corner of the throw were given as Sebastian laid down.  You know?  Just to make sure everything was going to be comfy or–whatever.

If only wishes would work and calm down the drumming of his pulse that echoed up into his ears.  But he smiled anyway.  Mischievously even.  A twinkle came into his eyes.  “I’m so ready. I just hope you’re prepared,” he hummed teasingly, “I’m pretty infamous for cuddling.  Fair warning.  It might ruin them from anyone else..”  Blaine crawled onto the blanket and laid down on his back reaching underneath his head to make some necessary adjustments to the pillow and a half that was his. Feeling the warmth of the fire on his feet garnered a sigh as he cocked his head to the side to look up at Sebastian.  “Comfy?  Enough blankets or?”

To live in the bliss of authenticity was astounding for Sebastian. He wasn’t hiding with Blaine. He was being completely vulnerable. However Blaine managed to pull that out of his ass was beyond Sebastian. This was going to be a night he’d never forget. How could he? It was hopefully the start of something so pure and perfect for him. It’d change him and mold him into a better man hopefully.

“Mmkay, sounds good,” he said. Groaning as he stood up he stretched out his long legs. He was so comfortable but he knew it’d be worth it. Walking over to place some firestarter and wood he worked with it until the smallest of embers bloomed into a wild flame. A metaphor for the night perhaps? Standing up tall he stripped off his shirt and threw it to the side. He wanted to feel the pure heat on his pale skin. It reminded him of the best of times. Christmas in France. His grandparents reading him Christmas stories as kids. Before the loss of innocence.

Blaine hurried upstairs to his bedroom.  A heavy breath parted his lips as he opened his linen closet and grabbed a blanket and thick throw wrapping his arms around both and awkwardly grabbing several pillows off his bed. Two fit in his arms while another dangled from a fist that was given a reprieve from shaking now that it had something to hang onto.  Nerves began to get the best of him.  Stopping short of leaving his room–Blaine glanced in the mirror on top of his dresser.  He gave himself a hard stare wondering if this would be too much and too close to last time and the mistakes that happened.  Ones that almost cost him more than he’d ever want to lose.  No.  This was fine.  They could lay there and talk.  Nothing had to happen.

Determined–he hurried down the stairs already taking too long snatching blankets and pillows. A soft gasp could be heard from the entrance to the living room.  Hazel eyes locked on the long, elegant line of Sebastian’s bare spine and Blaine practically dropped everything in his arms until he scrambled to snatch them tight again.  “I–um. You got the fire going?  Great–  You look comfortable,” be damned if his voice wasn’t an octave or two high enough for him not to notice. His eyebrows shoved towards one another–face screwed up in a faint cough to clear his throat and lose the wobble to his tone.  “Catch,” he recovered with a grin and tossed one pillow directly at the taller boy before joining him in front of the fire and tore his gaze off him and let what was in his arms fall to the floor so he could set everything up.

Sebastian chuckled and shook his head. Moments like these were so simple and oh so very sweet. Jokes aside, he loved these moments with Blaine. He was able to open up just the slightest and feel a little better. He didn’t feel like he was ready to explode all the time. Sebastian finished the rest of his plate and set it to the side. He sure knew how to clean a plate though.

“Yeah, yeah,” he shrugged. Hopping out of the bed he grabbed two picture frames. “I have these two pictures right here. One’s of me and my parents. And… there’s this one of me and my brother,” he became slightly more quiet. Showing it to Blaine he had the remnants of what once was a smile on his face.

“Yeah, yeah yourself, Mister.  You’re the one that did it.  Not me,” he mused jokingly and cut off another small piece of steak.  He had to admit–at least to himself because face it the other boy didn’t need yet another item to add to his list of things to inflate his ego.  Or ego that he liked to broadcast–anyway until the quieter moments they got to share.  Like these ones.  Blaine found himself looking forward with baited breath to each and every chance for days and nights like this that he could have.  Back to the point!  Sebastian was a phenomenal cook.

Blaine finished quickly and sat his plate to the side.  Toed off shoes fell with a thud-thud and his feet lifted so he could sit cross legged in the chair. Smiling with a curious tilt of his head–hazel eyes followed Sebastian to see what he was grabbing. When they were close enough to see–Blaine hummed with his smile renewed at the images in the photographs.  His brother was cute. Adorable, actually–Wait!  What?  Blinking up at him–Blaine about burst into excited chatter upon learning something new about the mystery that was Sebastian Smythe.  But the faded smile and softer voice had his own dropping instead.  “You have a brother?  I didn’t know.”  Did they not get along now?  Was that it?  Why the sudden–quiet?

baby pictures?  really?

“Gotcha,” Sebastian said, more entertained than ever. If only. Perhaps in Sebastian’s late night thoughts was that a thing, but certainly not now. No matter how hard he tried. “If we pretended that’d take away 100% of the fun, and I just can’t do that. Keeping you blushing and myself laughing is the perfect combination, Blaine,” he shrugged.

Sebastian threw back another bite. It was even better than the last. Food was one of his main passions, and God, was it good. As per usual, Sebastian was quite content with himself. “I’ve always been an extremely honest and blunt person. Father says I came out the womb critiquing the doctor’s scrubs.” His eyes slyly narrowed as he watched Blaine. “Adorable and frightening even now? Now don’t get too careless, otherwise all these compliments will make this ego bigger. Among other things,” his flirtation at an all-time high. “I can show you my baby pictures sometime.”

Blaine smirked down at his knife not looking up as he huffed a chuckle and shook his head. “Perfect combination for you—maybe–but for me it’s embarrassing to no end,” he teased lightly watching as another slice of steak was cut away from the rest.  “Oh really?  I never noticed. You?  Extremely honest and blunt?  No way.”  Sebastian saying he was either of the two was sort of like announcing for all the world to hear that the sky was blue and the grass was green. Two minutes into a single conversation with him and anyone would see.

Broken filter, remember?  After chasing down another few bites with some wine–Blaine lifted just his gaze to Sebastian.  “You realized you drew attention to the possibility of you getting–uh–yeah and then brought up your baby pictures?  Don’t you? Only you, Sebastian.  Only you.” Their banter was quickly becoming one of Blaine’s favorite things to toss back and forth.  Unless he ended up speechless and stumbling for words right smack dab in the middle.  So far?  He’d like to think he was getting better at holding his own. A challenge–that’s what their conversations were when they got too Sebastian-esque.  A challenge he wanted to win.  “I’d love to see them. If you play nice?  Maybe I’ll show you mine..”  Oh.  Damn it.  That was an outright setup.

sebastian.

“Kidding, Blaine. Kidding,” he nodded. Leaning in to peck him on the lips he shook his head whilst laughing. Sebastian looked down and nodded. This was one of the very few times that anyone had expressed any compassion to him. Of course his parents had but moments with them were few and far in between. They worked a lot and he was quite the lone wolf. “Yes, that was extremely corny but I loved it,” he smiled.

Looking over to the wall and back at Blaine he raised an eyebrow. “How ‘bout we get a few pillows and lay down and talk by the fireplace? I’m a bit cold and well, my neck hurts like a motherfucker sooooo…” he chuckled. The thought of the heat on his back was almost paradisal.

Blaine felt his cheeks explode with heat at the peck.  It was such a small gesture that lasted a millisecond but held so much affection inside it that he had to look down between them before he could properly catch a breath.  Only after he was sure he was breathing right did Blaine look up and meet Sebastian’s green eyes that always pinched together in the sweetest way when he smiled like that.  Did the other boy have any idea how innocent he could look when he was stripped bare of all the snark and cannon fodder sarcasm or perverted comments?  No.

Thing was?  Blaine didn’t dare tell him because he knew that if he ever did?  He might not ever get to see that Sebastian again.  Blaine laughed and shrugged in a small streak of embarrassment that faded into a hum.  “I’m glad you did.  I can be pretty corny if you haven’t noticed,” his nose scrunched.  Taking in a slow breath as he looked at the fireplace–Blaine hesitated for only a moment before he brushed his palms against his knees and stood.  “Sure. Let me go get pillows and blankets from my room.  You can start the fire if you want. Everything’s right there.”  Off he went after a backwards step or two and a pivot on bare feet.

sebastian.

“That’s a strange mix of compliment and insult for one person,” he grinned. A small laugh left him while his head rested on the back of the couch. Looking at Blaine he reached out to take his hands. “I am now, yeah. This is one of the first few moments where I haven’t felt so shitty on the inside. Thank you, Blaine,” his words were soft spoken. His heart was slowly opening up to someone else. It was a scary sensation but he was tired of fighting it. Something good was coming into his life, and he wouldn’t let go.

“How about you though? Are you doing okay?” he asked. Looking at Blaine was like seeing him for the first time. Sebastian scooted slightly closer to him. Breathing slowly, he began to run his fingers over Blaine’s hand. It was incessant and he didn’t quite realize what he was doing. There was a subtle look of happiness.

“Sorry.  I meant the compliment part but not the backhanded insult that came with it,” Blaine spoke just as softly as Sebastian.  After weeks of feeling strung out and having his mind race at the worst times?  Steady and quiet was too nice to ruin.  Letting his hands be gathered up–he inched closer on instinct like Sebastian’s gravity was pulling him in. Oh, one touch shouldn’t feel that good but it did and he didn’t want to let go.  “Me, too.”  Careful.  He’d be careful.  So neither one of them got hurt again.  But turning this small amount of peace away was just something he couldn’t do.

“Me?  I’m much better now.

I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out how I could let that happen and almost lose you.  I know you and me are–that–this is new but I meant what I said in my texts.  You are too important to let go.  Even if you don’t believe that. You are.”  Their closeness and the soothing feeling of fingers against the back of his hand lulled his eyes closed for a moment.  “Now that we’re okay?  I’m okay,” he smiled embarrassedly, “Did that sound as corny as I think it did?”

are you okay?

Sebastian dared to scoot closer. Blaine’s very fingers on his wrist felt so heavy but relieving in its own love-sick way. “Yeah, I wanna go there. With you,“ he whispered to Blaine. Sebastian’s boldness came back screaming as he leaned in to give Blaine a quick kiss on the lips. He didn’t want to make him feel any more uncomfortable or wrong with what he was doing, so he pulled away. Sebastian felt the intense need to do that very action. Otherwise, he might’ve gone wild. It was enough for the moment to keep him as happy as he could be. In fact, Sebastian hadn’t been so genuinely happy in a while. His gaze was soft and a stupid smile stretched from the corners of his mouth. Sebastian leaned his head against the couch cushion, his hair slightly messy from the lack of surprising upkeep.

If Sebastian gave him another chance–he’d promise him right here and now that he’d never risk messing things up again.  Not for some foolish repeat of a moment where he got so lost that he risked the chance to have Sebastian in his life.  He waited with baited breath–hinging on the moment where Sebastian would either let him in and give him back what he was so terrified of losing.  Or to know that he had irrevocably damaged what only just began but was now–for some reason he couldn’t name and didn’t really care to try because it just was–one of the most important connections to a person that he’s ever had.  There was something about Sebastian that drew him in, made him want to be near the other boy and know him and let Sebastian know him back just as much.  More than what he projected, more than what he let himself share because there were so many things he didn’t because those things were better left ignored. Sebastian seemed to see them without even trying..

The strangest part?  Blaine wanted him to..  He wouldn’t be able to say why.  Only that he did. And he knew that this was his second chance or Sebastian never would have come over.  A passing peck to his lips was enough to make his breath hitch. He swallowed past the cartwheel his insides went topsy turvy on and nodded with wave of relief splashing in.  “Thank you,” he whispered letting his head fall to rest on the cushion nearly mirroring Sebastian’s position.  “You look like a put together mess, by the way.  Not that it’s a bad thing.  It’s not but,” he studied him with a darting glance over his eyes, “Are you okay?”
