[ text | blaine ] It does. Believe me, it does.
[ text | blaine ] I really appreciate that, I hope you know that.
[ text | blaine ] How awkward?

( mssg » dave | sent ) I do.  The feeling’s mutual.  I owe you a lot, Dave.
( mssg » dave | sent ) I’m just glad you’re giving me the chance to show you how much tonight.
( mssg » dave | sent ) That came out so not the way I was intending.  I mean..  Yep.  Um.
( mssg » dave | sent ) Almost as awkward as I am after that reply.

dave.

Dave beamed, shrugging his shoulders. “Yeah, but I figured I’d save you the trip to the car anyways. Besides, I’m sure you could make it up to me some how,” he pointed out. He enjoyed the hug for a moment, before looking back ask Blaine attempted to get his attention. He was about to say something, when he felt the lips on his cheek. Smiling stupidly, Dave leaned in, giving Blaine a quick kiss back. He then nodded, showing the other that he did indeed understand what he was saying. “Yeah, i’ll see you soon, don’t worry,” he assured. “I’ll probably just put them in the living room, I figure that’s probably the best place to put it right now,” he shrugged.

Dave didn’t want to waste any of his time with Blaine. Eagerly, he jogged to the car and didn’t hesitate to roughly grab his things so that he could be even quicker to getting back to Blaine and into the house to start their time together. After dropping his things off in the living room, making sure to not just toss it anywhere, he quickly found the kitchen. Leaning against the frame of the entrance to the kitchen, Dave smiled, watching from afar. It was so nice being around Blaine, such a breath of fresh air. He stared back at Blaine for a while, just admiring him. How he had gotten to be this man’s boyfriend, he wasn’t entirely sure. “You can greet me with a stare, which by the way was not creepy, any time you want to. As for getting me anything, I’d love some water if I could?” he chuckled. “Though besides that, I’d rather just relax and spend some time with my boyfriend, if you know what I mean.”

Blaine was just as full of curious wonderment about how the two of them got to this point.  He didn’t set out for this and had fully convinced himself that he wasn’t going to try for a very long time.  Then Dave happened and he just felt so–he blinked out of his train of thought yet again having gone off trying to weigh the pros and cons of telling Dave what he was thinking verses wondering if it would be too much.  Or if he even needed to or should.  “W-Water–yeah–yeah sure.”  Glasses were sort of necessary for water–right?  “I’d like that.  Want to find something to watch?”  Two were grabbed from the cabinet without Blaine missing a beat in smiling a dopey, honest-to-goodness smile back at Dave as he filled them with ice and water from the fridge.

“Come on,” one was offered to Dave.  With a now free hand?  Blaine curled his fingers around Dave’s palm and lead him back to the living room.  “I hope Lord Tubbington’s mafia connections didn’t follow you here.  We don’t need the mob interrupting some quality couch time,” he grinned teasingly.  “In the mood for anything in particular? Or should we just see what’s on? I’m totally fine with just quiet, too. You’re the one that’s been in the car all this time so you get to pick.” After a sip of the water–Blaine sat his glass on the coffee table and took a seat realizing he’d never let go of Dave’s hand this entire time.  Nor did he make any attempt to do so once he noticed either. Instead, he squeezed gently and lightly tugged for Dave to join him.  “I’ve missed you, you know?”  His voice was soft but his eyes were warm.  “Thanks for coming..even if you had to brave traffic and mobster cats..”

dave.

[ text | blaine ] We have been, haven’t we. I guess that just makes us stronger people doesn’t it.
[ text | blaine ] And i’ll always be there to remind you that, I promise.
[ text | blaine ] ….right. Yeah. I’m trying. Though I love the sweet part very much.

( mssg » dave | sent ) I think it just might.  Hope that makes you smile.
( mssg » dave | sent ) Thanks and I promise I’ll do the same for you.
( mssg » dave | sent ) You love the sweet part?  Good!  It’d be awkward if that wasn’t your thing.  Ha!

dave.

[text || blaine ] Well yeah, but I’d like to think that even without me, you’d be able to be a strong person. I’m glad that we’ve made the progress we’ve made though, we are doing better that before.

( mssg » dave | sent ) Sure.  I mean.  Yeah.  Definitely, I would be.  You and I have been through enough not to end up as two strong people.
( mssg » dave | sent ) I’m just glad I had/have you here to remind me of that..
( mssg » dave | sent ) Dave?  Just take the credit you deserve and let me be sweet to you.  🙂

Dave let out a load chuckle, leaning back in his seat a bit. “That’s what I heard too. He’s a huge target of the mob, threatened to reveal something, or took too much of the mobs drugs or something. He’s wanted though, but Brittany has some kind of deal with them or something? Something about doing something for them in exchange that they don’t hurt him. They’re leaving him alone for now,” he nodded to himself grinning. The stories Brittany always told him just made him smile all the time. He let out a long sigh, especially when he knew Blaine was right, he really shouldn’t be talking on the phone, not when he almost got into a car accident. “Okay, Okay, fine. I’ll hang up, and I’ll talk to you when I get there, and try not to be too excited about what we’re about to be doing, because of course, I haven’t been excited for, I dunno, forever or anything,” he teased, pausing for a moment. “I’ll see you soon Blaine.” he said as he hung up the phone.

As Dave pulled into the driveway he felt his heart start racing. He knew it was his excitement. Ever since he started dating Blaine, every day had been something to look forward to. He always looked forward to the time of the day he got to come see Blaine. Turning the car off, he reached behind him, pulling out his stuff for their visit, but Blaine stopped him. He raised an eyebrow, but let go of his things, and grabbed the ice cream instead. “I think I’m good. Though if you want to get this ice cream inside while I do get my stuff I wont complain. Of course then I actually want to say hi to you,” he grinned, walking over to his boyfriend. Handing over the ice cream, Dave leaned in, pulling Blaine into an awkwardly positioned hug. “Hey there. I’m glad I made it too,” he hummed, before turning around to go get his things for the night.

“Okay but I would have carried those for you in exchange for you showing up with this,”  he grinned down at the bag of goodies Dave brought. Blaine hooked the bag under Dave’s arm as he laughed and managed to hug him back the best he could in their position.  “Hi back..”  Before Dave could turn completely, Blaine reached out and touched his elbow to get his attention. There was only a flash of awkward silence once he had it before he inched up onto his toes and pressed a kiss to Dave’s cheek.  A sharp exhale and a deep breath recovered the air he’d been holding in and a blush spread over his olive complexion.  His thumb jutted in the direction of the large set of double doors, “I’ll see you inside, okay?”  Two backwards steps and a rub to the back of his neck later–Blaine gave him the room to get his things and bit his lip behind his back. “You can put your stuff wherever.  I’ll be in the kitchen.”

That was where he would be found once Dave was inside.  Tossing the plastic bag into a recycle container underneath the kitchen sink and glancing up with round hazel eyes that crinkled at their edges in a welcoming smile.  It felt good to see Dave standing there–a realization that washed over him in a warm wave.  The man had a comforting presence that once Blaine got to know him more than the small bit of friendship they all discovered in the end? He felt–safer when Dave was around.  From himself, from everything.  Did Dave have any idea how much that meant to him?  He’d probably humbly shrug it off as being a good person if it was pointed out.  Blaine didn’t think about how he was watching him so closely as he mulled the idea over. Or that he hadn’t said anything yet.  Then in a snap back to the planet–he tucked his head down and felt his face get hotter.  “I–Sorry.  Greeting you with a creepy stare was not my intention.  Can I get you anything?   Are you thirsty?  Hungry?  Just need to relax?”

Dave couldn’t help but laugh because he really wasn’t used to Blaine’s protectiveness and really wasn’t used to that tone from anyone but his dad. “Okay Dad, i’ll try to remember that next time,” he paused, still laughing a bit. “It was Siri by the way. I got Siri’s attention and had her text you for me. All hands free, I promise,” he continued, pulling up to a stop light. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, debating if maybe he should turn on some music when they hung up, because it could pass the time of the drive. “So I might have gotten kind of carried away on ice cream, by the way. I think we have enough ice cream to last us a very long, long time. Unless we eat it in one sitting, then it probably wont last that long,” he hummed, pressing down on the gas as the light changed colors.

“I’m really looking forward to this by the way. You have no idea how fast I wanted the weekend to come. It kind of felt like the rest of the week just kind of dragged out. My dad told me to take a chill pill a couple of times. Which, I told Brittany about, and she suggested I take the happy pills her cat sells. Not sure if I trust a cat to be my drug dealer,” he babbled, trying to fill up his drive with chit chat. He was glad that he had Brittany and Santana as friends, it made his life a whole lot more interesting, especially Brittany. As he pulled off of the highway onto the main road, someone swerved around him, and then in front, causing him to break suddenly. “Damnit,” he muttered, slowly picking up his speed again. “People here are stupid drivers,” he muttered. “But I should be there within the next twenty minutes.”

Hand on his hip, Blaine dropped his head forward and smiled wide enough to pinch the corners of his eyes hearing Dave was so excited he needed to be told to take a ‘chill pill’. Laughter crinkled their edges even more, hand lifting from his hip to wave frantically even though there was no one there to see. “Uh!  No!  No!  I don’t think you want any of what Lord Tubbington is pushing.  From what I hear?  He can’t be trusted.  Sold some bad heroine that got him in trouble with the mob or–  I forget Brittany’s whole story but it was pretty intense.  Had to go into hiding which I’m pretty sure was a trip to the vet for a checkup that lasted overnight.”  Stopping by the window–Blaine pulled the curtains back and looked outside even though he knew Dave was a ways away like he could will him there faster.  Jerking back at Dave’s reaction–he shook his head. “Okay!  We’re officially done talking til you get here.  Because I want you to get here.  Not end up getting hit by one of Ohio’s finest examples of driving know how.  I’ll see you soon.”

The sound of Dave’s tires against the driveway outside drew Blaine’s attention from tinkering with a few pianokeys. No real song.  Just a plink, plink of notes that were a distraction more than any real effort.  Blaine smiled down at his hands and curled his fingers towards his palm.

At least he was touching them again.  He was opening the door before Dave had enough time to get parked.  Shoulder leaning against the frame, a wide smile greeted his boyfriend as he rolled to a stop hand lifting in a wave of greeting before his arms crossed over his chest.  As soon as Dave came into view outside the car–Blaine called out.  “Need help with the bags?  We can get your things later. Just get the ice cream before we end up committing the ultimate party foul and it’s a melted mess! Oh and hi!  Glad you got here in one piece!”

Dave’s fingers tapped against the steering wheel, a cheerful tune running through his head. The car was a bit weird, not like his usual car, but considering his own car was in the shop, it had been easier to just rent a car with Blaine. He grinned stupidly as he thought about the fact that he was about to go on an adventure with his boyfriend. Sure, it was only a short trip, and it wasn’t like this was the first time they had drove a long distance together, but this was their first road trip. Dave stuck his hand out the window, giving Blaine a wave when he noticed Blaine waving at him. How he had ended up dating Blaine, who turned out to be one of the greatest guys he met, he still wasn’t actually sure. Dave reached behind himself, fiddling with his backpack and moving around the cooler. “You have to have a cooler, David, what if you two got hungry and there wasn’t anything to eat for miles?” his dad had reason as he had started to pack the two of them a lunch. At that time, Dave had just rolled his eyes, but now he was hoping Blaine actually enjoyed it.

He watched as Blaine came out of the house, and tried not to be too amused by the multiple bags. Sliding out of the car, he reached forward to Blaine, a huge smile across his face. “Hey there,” he beamed, leaning in to hug his boyfriend. As he pulled back, Dave shook his head. “Nah, you could never have enough stuff, right? Besides, I can’t really say anything. I have my own bag and a suit carrier, and a backpack, plus my dad insisted on me bringing food for us,” he hummed, reaching for Blaine’s things. He had realized, when packing his bag, he couldn’t put his laptop in the bag,  which meant he had to have a separate bag. “Thank you for coming with me Blaine, I really appreciate it,” Dave said suddenly, giving Blaine a grateful smile.

Dave greeted him with a smile that went on for days and a pair of arms waiting.  Blaine was now well past thinking it was so strange to hug Dave back.  All thanks to the man hugging him patiently giving him time and helping him to start working on his troubled mind.  They both knew what it felt like to bottom out.  Dave was there to listen and understood. He was apart from the close inner circle of friends that made Blaine feel too guilty of possibly making think they had to chose ‘sides’ –there weren’t any sides, he knew that now but not then– to hear him out.  At three o’clock in the morning when Blaine felt like he was losing it? Dave always picked up the phone to talk him down and refused accept an apology for the phone ringing at an ungodly hour.  In Dave’s opinion?  None were ever needed..  When he started therapy?  Dave drove him to the doctor that he recommended.  There were more things, small and big that Dave did for him and never asked anything back but Blaine’s company.

What was Dave to him?  A boyfriend. An unexpected turn that took him off a dark road right before he drove off the steepest cliff he’d ever sped towards.  Dave was someone who was there and Blaine was grateful.  Instead of holding back–Blaine stepped into the hug and it was warm and soft lasted only for a minute. More than enough time for him to lift up onto his toes to press a kiss to Dave’s cheek because his arms were too full to hug him back properly. Blaine laughed and shrugged out of his bags to hand them over.  “Uh–Sure,” he grinned happily, “Or you are too sweet to ask me what the heck.”  The thank you made Blaine blink, mouth open in surprise.  “You’re welcome. Hey!  I’m excited about this!  We’re going to have fun and–?  Thanks to your dad?  We’re already ahead.”  Reaching over–Blaine gripped Dave’s elbow and gave it a squeeze.  “Thank you for inviting me, Dave. Let’s get out of this town.  Last one in the car pumps gas first. Race ya?”  Yea!  That happened.  So said the view of Blaine’s back as he suddenly jerked into a jog towards the passenger side.

Dave stared at his bag, trying to think of anything else he could possible pack for that weekend. It wasn’t like it was anything big, he was just going to be hanging out with Blaine and devouring ice cream – – Ice cream, he needed to pick up some ice cream, especially chocolate ice cream, maybe some more butterscotch ice cream too, but he wasn’t sure if Blaine would like that kind. All else fails, he knew he could get Neapolitan and have multiple flavors covered in one go. Maybe he shouldn’t over think the ice cream thing, it wasn’t that big of a deal.

After leaving the house and then spending twenty minutes trying to pick out the perfect ice creams, including bothering the shop attendant about what their favorite flavors were and what their partner liked, he was finally on the highway to Westerville. “Siri, text Blaine,” he called out, grateful Siri worked hands free in the car. As Siri responded, he let out a breath. “I should be there in a half hour! Feel free to call if you want or i’ll just call when I get there!” he called out, and confirmed the send.

Blaine lit one last vanilla candle and sat it on the mantle next to three others before deciding that was enough unless he wanted to make it look too obvious he spent most of the day getting an already perfectly put together house even more–put together? Taking a step back and breathing deep through a crease between the edges of his hands, the sides of both pointer fingers ran up the bridge of his nose and crossed thumbs rubbed the curves of his chin.  Too much for binge watching movies and ice cream?  Candles didn’t need to be a part of the equation but doing all of this put the nervous beating of butterfly wings against his stomach at ease.

Otherwise?  He’d be checking his phone repeatedly to see if something came up. Or another twist of fate that he couldn’t believe was actually going his way for the short while it had been was suddenly back to not being in his favor and messed up their plans just for it’s own amusement. Reason One when his phone vibrated he smirked at it figuring he’d given himself some movie quality foreshadowing and mucked it up on his own by somehow willing the worst to happen.  Both brows rose when he saw the message and the worrying of his teeth against his lip became a smile.  He quickly called back not giving Dave enough time to blurt out hello–Blaine started talking.  “Eyes on the road, Dave.  Not on text messages.  Call me when you get here.  Sorry.  Hi,” he waited rolling his eyes ceilingward at how much he sounded like a lecturing, overprotective dad instead of a–.  Oh.  Yeah.  Phone call.  Right-right!
