GREEN EYES ADJUST to the shine of the ghost light on the stage, but just for a moment, before blaine has flicked on some of the lights, and stadium seating exposes itself at an entirely new angle. sure, she’d been in the auditorium countless times before, but usually her little butt was planted in one of the maroon folding seats. no, now she was standing on the stage with him, on the other end of the room she’d always seen without thinking twice.     ❝  it’s so cool to just like… be on this side of it, y’know ?  ❞     she crosses her arms, holding herself a little as she shrugs.     ❝  i mean, i’m… an avid shower-singer. but… i dunno. i love music, all music, and… i guess i just can’t remember a time when i wasn’t interested. i just didn’t… think i’d be good enough to bother…  ❞

Blaine stole a few seconds to glance out over the rows of seats that stretched up into the inky dark.  “You know?  Sometimes,” he paused and shook his head turning his attention to her and lifting his brows to stress his correction, “All the time, actually, being up here?  Makes me feel like I’m in a different world.  From the stage to the props and even if there aren’t any where and it’s only lights above and below?”  His toe nudged at the row of footlights on the lip of the stage.  “I think coming up here lets you be good enough no matter how much you might doubt yourself.  Once you’re here?  If you let it?  The stage takes care of the rest,” he smiled warmly, “Sorry.  That’s grossly poetic.  So.  Do you have questions about the New Directions?  Or do you want to get down to the part where we sing right away?  Cause, as of right now, this is your show.”

Cooper had known that something was up with Blaine, he’d seen him growing more and more distant, but he hadn’t known that things were this bad. Mostly because Blaine seemed to refuse to let him in, opting instead to suffer in silence. At first Cooper had thought that Blaine would eventually come around on his own, open up and Cooper would be there to offer some solace, but it hadn’t come. Now he was worried. He watched as Blaine seemed to crumble in front of him, and silently Cooper shifted a little closer to his kid brother, slipping his arm around Blaine’s shoulder and giving him a little squeeze, letting Blaine finally talk.

The silence lingered around them for a little while, Cooper taking a few minutes to gather his thoughts, not wanting to accidentally make things worse. “You know that’s okay, right Squirt?” he finally said, his voice soft as he spoke, his thumb gently rubbing against Blaine’s shoulder, “No one has all the answers, and everyone goes through a tough time every now and then. You might feel lost right now, but you’ve got people around you who care about you, you know that, right?” he turned his head to the side, studying Blaine for a moment, not entirely sure where he was going with this. He wasn’t exactly known for giving profound advice, Cooper was the fun brother, not the serious well spoken one. But he knew that he had to try something, anything that would potentially help Blaine through whatever was going on in that head of his.

“This isn’t just about the competition tomorrow, is it?”

Blaine’s knee began to bounce against the lip of his chair once Cooper’s arm wrapped around his shoulders.  The stoic expression he was doing his damnedest to keep began to dissolve and the crinkle between his brows was the first sign of how hard he was fighting to keep so much inside.  Swallowing around the rock in his throat, he cautiously let his head rest against the inside of Cooper’s shoulder.  Without any hesitation he might’ve had before because he knew Cooper didn’t particularly do the whole moments like this thing and his sophomore year before Dalton, no doubt, cashed a lot of those in–his fingers wrapped around Cooper’s wrist keeping his arm and hand right where they were.  “Is it though?  Is it okay?  I’m not sure.  I’m just expected not to be,” he shook his head the best he could given his position.  “I’m not sure how to fix everything.  One huge mistake and everything feels so..different.”  Blowing it beyond repair?  Wow.  He never knew he’d be so good at it.

“No.  It’s not only about the competition.  It’s about everything.”

Shutting his eyes, he blew out a breath and ignored how his eyelids felt like they were on fire.  Or how his breath would only come in short jerks that barely gave him enough air.  “I don’t know where to go or what to do.”  Licking his lips, he glanced up at the line of Cooper’s jaw with blood shot eyes but at least he was breathing deeply and his voice only cracked a little bit.  “Why did I do that, Coop?  Why’d I ruin everything?”  Cooper didn’t have to answer.  How could his brother know why when he could only chalk it up to having himself to blame?  “Sorry.  You didn’t sign up for this.  I’ll be okay,” he shrugged and gave Cooper a wobbly smile.  “Always am.”

‘So THIS is your idea of happily ever after?? When your kids ask you how to end a fight in a relationship, you’re gonna teach them to propose?? Because that’s so healthy. I’m not bitter, you idiot. I’m trying to HELP you. You’re fucking up your life. Worse than I almost fucked up mine. And NONE of your so called friends seem to have the balls to tell that to your face. I do. Stop being a prick for a minute, and be the Blaine I used to know. THAT boy that I met in a Warbler practice, would NEVER propose to someone thinking it would end all his problems. That boy would want to propose to someone after a whole planned dating life, and with his whole record straight. Say what you want. I might never understand how gay face’s brain works. But if you tried to pull that on me in PUBLIC after I broke up with you, I’d be pissed. If coercing someone that broke up with you into marrying you, in front of all your friends and enemies, is your idea of a fairy tale, then by all means, knock yourself out. Or maybe. You could THINK about the shit you’re doing.’

A request to speak alone after the shouts and hugs came to a stop should’ve given him warning once they were behind closed doors?  There was no other outcome for their ‘conversation’ other than the one that was slammed down on him with the force of a hammer driving railroad ties into his feet.  With no hope of escape?  All Blaine could do was brace for the impact. His heart sank until it felt like it was swallowed up.  While at the same time?  Something in him began to snap.  That practiced poise and self control he’d gained through nights of slamming his fists into sacks of leather or someone who could hit back and dancing until his feet felt like they might fall off crumbled.  By the end?  It was in ashes at his feet.  Blaine didn’t look up from the point behind Sebastian’s knees his gaze fixed itself out of fear of what he might do if he did.  “End all my problems?  Coercing someone into marrying me?  If that’s what you think this is?  You never knew me.  That’s the thing, Sebastian.  You don’t know what’s been going on with me.  Or him.  Or us.  You don’t know a third of what we’ve been through.  What we’ve moved on from.  What we have.  But..  Sure.  I’ll stop being a prick.  Starting now.  Don’t worry; I’ll try to have us out of your hair as soon as possible.  Don’t be there if that’s what suits you.  If that’s who you think I am..  Which you obviously do.  After today?  You’ll never have to deal with me..or my shit again.”

he won’t mention, for the moment, that he did not make the blondies himself. they were homemade – as in, made in his home, but for everyone’s safety sake, billy rarely stepped foot in the kitchen. head tilts thoughtfully. makeup, costuming, now THOSE are ideas the boy can get behind. billy is uncertain as to why blaine is trying so hard, but it’s not unappreciated. god knows the boy could do with gaining a few more friends around here and this didn’t seem like a terrible idea. “well, i AM a dab hand when it comes to putting an outfit together. you see this shirt? mcqueenEBAY. absolute steal.” he smiles, coming round to the possibility a little more. “and frankly i could do with having a new project. — count me in.”

Blaine’s smile turned from welcoming to warm when Billy pointed out his shirt.  Who made it and how he managed to get his hands on it?  That’s an oddly familiar way a certain other person in Blaine’s life manages to dress himself like he walked out of an issue of Vogue magazine..a year from now.  Only adding to the idea that he picked the right person to ask for help, Billy received Blaine’s full attention as he inched his chair closer to the table and bounced in his seat.  “Great!  Thank you.  Are you free tomorrow?  We could use all the help we can get.  Besides?  You can meet some new people.  Some of which, I apologize for their drama in advance, the closer we get to Opening Night?  The worse it’s going to be.  Not that I want to scare you off.  Maybe I should shut up.”  He hummed before doing just that and breaking off a piece of his cookie to munch on and offered Billy the other edge of it if he wanted with a lift of his brow.

Sunshine and happiness.  That’s what he was supposed to be giving Kurt and Rachel.  Right?  Honestly, it was getting harder and harder to try and keep up the act the closer graduation was becoming.  The more they planned their lives in New York City?  The more supportive he wanted to be.  Even if he struggled to smile, cheer, clap, clap, clap his way to making them smile and easing the anxiety both of them might be going through because their lives were about to change hugely.  Because they needed a cheerleader.  They deserved one.

He thought he was doing a good job covering his fears up.  Ignoring his doubts.  Trying to be the best boyfriend and friend he could be.  Yet with every stroke of her fingers, not even the smell of raspberries and the gentle pressure over his scalp stopped the petulant look that stole his smile, made his gaze avert itself.  Blaine’s reflection was a stark contrast to his chipper, “Yeah.  You’re right. Only a year!  It’ll go by fast,” his shoulders dropped, “Like it’s barely a year at all.”  Just the longest one of his life.  “I’m sure.”  Not really.

torrance.

OF ALL PEOPLE, torrance had never known herself to really be nervous, but sometimes, especially when trying something new, she knew herself to be occasionally wracked with nerves, like her stomach was full of bubbles and butterflies, and she could burst at any second. despite this, it had never deterred her from a new adventure, and when blaine pushes open the backstage door, she can’t help but grin with a flush to her face.     ❝  honestly, i think that sounds like a GREAT idea.  ❞

Seeing the grin and how her face filled with color made going out on a limb like this more than worth the potential for it to go South and her to look at him like he had two heads before walking off.  “That’s because it is a great idea,” he grinned teasing her as he lead her out from behind the heavy curtain.  The stage was illuminated by a ghost light and a few overhead lights created beams that lit up a circle of seats in each part of the auditorium.  “How long have you been wanting to sing?  I had no idea you were interested.”  A flick of a few switches and the lights at the foot of the stage cut through the dark.  “Pretty neat, huh?”  He nodded towards the rows of chairs beyond the stage.

▒▓ *.:。✿  ❛❛  i wasn’t sure what your favorite pastry was so i tried to make an assortment. i made banana nut bread, chocolate chip cookies, && vanilla glazed strawberry rolls. ❜❜ the petite brunette says as she gently lowers the basket of homemade baked treats on his nightstand. seeing one of her teammate’s in such a state is very quite upsetting of course but she’s certain that he’ll be better in no time.

❛❛

what that sebastian boy did … oh it just — ! it gets me all worked up ! it makes me so … so gosh darn mad !

she huffs angrily.

Staring at the basket, Blaine can’t help but smile.  Even if it is a little lopsided and he’s still about two and a half sheets to the wind thanks to his painkillers.  Two sheets and a body pillowcase?  Yep.  That was pretty accurate.  His palms press flat together between his thighs and his shoulders pitch up in a happy/it’s way okay shrug.  “I can’t say I’m upset about this many treats.  You didn’t have to go through all that but they smell amazing and thank you.”  Hearing Sebastian’s name, his smile wobbles but he makes sure to keep the ghost of it.  Dorothy adorably upset makes it easier to not let it die out completely. “Has anyone ever told you how sweet you are?  I don’t think any of us planned for it to go that far.  Part of me hopes that he didn’t either, you know?”  Off the record?  A part that’s getting smaller the longer the radio silence between them stretches out..

torrance.

SHE’S UNSURE WHAT she did to deserve someone as passionate and talented as blaine to take an interest in guiding her. sure, her experience mostly amounted to singing in the shower, but maybe that was just as good experience as she’d need to start.     ❝  oh, man…     i mean, i LOVE pop music, stuff that’s fun and positive and makes you feel good. and i actually like rock and punk a lot too, actually !     something that can make you jump around and fill you with energy, y’know ?  ❞

Blaine was in love with the idea of getting to know someone new as much as he was in getting the opportunity to teach her.  He hummed happily at her choices, glad that she seemed to mirror his in a few ways and they had a common ground to start off from.  “If you could pick one song, right now, to get on a stage and sing your heart out with; what would it be?  Curious minds want to know.”  Curious minds leading them towards the auditorium especially needed to know.  For..reasons.
